18 U.S.C. Sec. 1028(D)(4) is a federal statute which defines the term "false identification document" as any document, or other physical or electronic item, of a type intended or commonly accepted for the purpose of identification of an individual, that either falsely purports to be issued by or under the authority of the United States or any state, or falsely purports to be a genuine identification document, or any document or other physical or electronic item of a type intended or commonly accepted for the purpose of identification of an individual that is counterfeit, fictitious, altered, or forged. Types of false identification documents defined under 18 U.S.C. Sec. 1028(D)(4) include: -Documents falsely purporting to be issued by or under the authority of the United States or any state; -Documents that falsely purport to be a genuine identification document; -Counterfeit documents; -Fictitious documents; -Altered documents; and -Forged documents.
