This type of material is often used for language teaching and learning, language research, and to help translate and transcribe audio recordings. The recordings can come in many forms, including audio recordings of conversations between two or more people, audio recordings of lectures or speeches, and audio recordings of interviews. The accompanying English transcript is typically a verbatim transcription of the foreign language audio, with the English translation appearing in brackets next to the original text. Other types of transcriptions are also available, such as a glossed version which includes notes and explanations about the language being spoken.
