Utah's Note-taking is a note-taking strategy that helps students organize their notes in a logical and visual way. It is based on the Cornell Note-taking System and uses a three-column format. The first column is for the main points of the lecture (keywords and phrases). The second column is for details related to the main points, and the third column is for reflections and questions. The idea is to summarize the lecture in the first column, which makes it easier to review and remember the material. There are three types of Utah Note-taking: linear, hierarchical, and graphic. Linear notes are organized by time and follow a chronological order. Hierarchical notes organize information in a hierarchical structure, with the most important information at the top. Graphic notes are organized in visual diagrams, such as spider diagrams and concept maps.
