The Utah Military Service Order is a formal, written directive issued by the Governor of Utah to the Adjutant General of the State of Utah that orders members of the Utah National Guard to serve in active duty or in a limited status. This order can be given for a variety of tasks, such as responding to a natural disaster, providing support during an emergency, or serving in a federal mission. There are four types of Utah Military Service Orders: Call to Active Duty, Call to State Active Duty, Limited Status, and Title 32. Call to Active Duty orders are given when members of the Utah National Guard are called to serve under federal authority. Call to State Active Duty orders are issued when the Governor orders National Guard personnel to serve within the state of Utah in a State Active Duty status. Limited Status orders are issued when members of the Utah National Guard are issued orders to serve in a limited capacity and may not necessarily require full-time service. Title 32 orders are issued when the National Guard is ordered to serve in a federal mission, but the personnel remain under the control of the Governor.
