Application to Qualify as an Attorney for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia is a process by which attorneys can become qualified to practice in the Eastern District of Virginia. There are two types of applications. The first type is the Application to Qualify as a Pro HAC Vice Attorney. This application is for attorneys who are already admitted practicing in another state but wish to practice in the Eastern District of Virginia. This application requires submission of a written application, a $50 fee, proof of admission to practice in another state, and a certificate of good standing from the state in which you are currently admitted. The second type of application is the Application to Qualify as an Attorney of Record. This application is for attorneys who are not currently admitted practicing in any state. This application requires submission of a written application, a $50 fee, proof of completion of an accredited law school program, proof of passing the bar exam of any state or the District of Columbia, and proof of eligibility for admission to the bar of any state or the District of Columbia. Both types of applications require completion of the Eastern District of Virginia's Attorney Admission and Orientation Program. This program provides a comprehensive overview of the bankruptcy court's procedures, rules, and policies. Once the application is approved, the attorney will be qualified to practice in the Eastern District of Virginia.
