The Virginia Financial Interest Disclosure Statement is a document that must be filed by certain public officials and employees of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It requires individuals to disclose any financial interests they have in businesses, investments, and other assets. The disclosure statement must be filed annually with the Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council. There are three types of Virginia Financial Interest Disclosure Statements: 1) the Annual Statement of Economic Interests; 2) the Annual Statement of Economic Interests in Lobbyists; and 3) the Annual Statement of Economic Interests in Candidates and Officeholders. The Annual Statement of Economic Interests requires individuals to report all financial interests they have in businesses, investments, and other assets. This includes income, assets, debts, and liabilities. It also requires individuals to list any gifts they have received and any outside positions they have held. The Annual Statement of Economic Interests in Lobbyists requires lobbyists to disclose any fees or payments they have received for lobbying activities. They must also list any gifts they have received in connection with their lobbying activities. The Annual Statement of Economic Interests in Candidates and Officeholders requires individuals who are running for office or who currently hold a public office to disclose any gifts they have received and any outside positions they have held. This form must also be filed with the Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council.
