A Virginia Notice of Referral to Probation Officer (NRP) is a document issued by the court which orders an individual to appear before a probation officer. It is issued when the court determines that a person has violated the terms of their probation or has committed a new offense. There are two types of Virginia Notice of Referral to Probation Officer: 1. Pre-Adjudication Referral: This type of referral is issued prior to an adjudication hearing or trial. It orders the defendant to appear before a probation officer to determine if they are suitable for probation or if they should be held in custody. 2. Post-Adjudication Referral: This type of referral is issued after the court has adjudicated the defendant and determined that they are suitable for probation. It orders the defendant to appear before a probation officer for the purpose of monitoring their compliance with conditions of probation.
