Virginia Waiver of Qualification is a document that allows a qualified professional or business owner to be exempt from the licensing requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is issued by the Virginia Board for Contractors and is most often requested by individuals who do not meet the education, experience, and examination requirements to be a licensed contractor. There are three types of Virginia Waiver of Qualification: Limited Waiver, Basic Waiver, and Enhanced Waiver. The Limited Waiver requires the applicant to have at least three years of experience as a professional in the field they are seeking the waiver for, and it allows the applicant to do construction work of up to $10,000 in value, including labor and materials. The Basic Waiver requires the applicant to have at least four years of experience as a professional in the field they are seeking the waiver for, and it allows the applicant to do construction work of up to $30,000 in value, including labor and materials. The Enhanced Waiver requires the applicant to have at least eight years of experience as a professional in the field they are seeking the waiver for, and it allows the applicant to do construction work of up to $60,000 in value, including labor and materials.
