The Virginia Application To Qualify As A Foreign Attorney (Pro HAC Vice) is a legal document that is used to allow an attorney who is not admitted to practice law in the state of Virginia to be allowed to represent a client in a specific case on a limited basis. This application must be submitted to the court in which the attorney is seeking to practice and requires the signature of both the attorney and the supervising attorney who is currently admitted practicing in Virginia. The application must also include supporting documentation such as the attorney’s qualifications and experience. There are two types of Virginia Applications To Qualify As A Foreign Attorney (Pro HAC Vice): the ex parte application and the regular application. The ex parte application is used when the attorney is not able to appear in court in person and can only be granted if there is good cause for the request and no other Virginia attorney is available to represent the client. The regular application is used when the attorney is able to appear in court and must be filed at least 14 days prior to the date of the hearing.
