Virginia Redaction Request is a process that enables Virginians to request the redaction of certain personal information from public records. Personal information that can be redacted includes Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and certain financial account numbers. Virginians can submit a redaction request to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, the Virginia State Corporation Commission, and the Virginia Circuit Court Clerk. There are two types of Virginia Redaction Request: (1) Individual Redaction Request, and (2) Business Redaction Request. Individual Redaction Requests are for personal records, such as motor vehicle records, while Business Redaction Requests are for business records, such as corporate records.
