The Vermont Agreement for Post-Adoption Contact or Communication is a legal document that establishes a post-adoption contact arrangement between adoptive parents and birth parents. This agreement sets out the terms of contact or communication between the two parties, including frequency, type, and duration of contact, as well as specifying the roles and responsibilities of each party. The agreement is intended to ensure that all parties involved in an adoption understand their rights and obligations in regard to post-adoption contact. There are two types of Vermont Agreement for Post-Adoption Contact or Communication: closed and open. A closed agreement outlines a limited amount of contact between the adoptive family and the birth family, with no further contact after the adoption is finalized. An open agreement, on the other hand, allows for ongoing contact between the adoptive family and the birth family, often including visits, telephone calls, and/or written correspondence.
