Vermont Case Data Divorce Completion (Mediation) is a service provided by the Vermont Judiciary to help couples in the state of Vermont complete their divorce proceedings. Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution which allows the parties to work together to reach an agreement without going to court. Mediation is a voluntary process, and the parties to the divorce must agree to participate. Through mediation, the parties can come to a fair and equitable agreement regarding matters such as property division, alimony, child support, and other related issues. The mediator will help the parties reach an agreement, but will not make binding decisions. There are two types of Vermont Case Data Divorce Completion (Mediation): private mediation and court-ordered mediation. Private mediation is offered by an independent mediator, and the parties to the divorce must agree to participate. Court-ordered mediation is initiated by a judge, and the parties are required to attend. Both types of mediation are confidential and non-binding, meaning that the parties must still go before a court to obtain a final divorce decree.
