Vermont Certification of Completion of CLE Makeup Plan is a program developed by the Vermont Supreme Court to ensure that attorneys in the state remain compliant with their continuing legal education (CLE) requirements. Attorneys must complete a minimum of 15 CLE credits per year, with at least three credits in ethics, and three credits in professionalism. If an attorney falls short of the CLE requirement, they must submit a CLE Makeup Plan to the Vermont Supreme Court. Once the CLE Makeup Plan is accepted, the attorney will be required to submit a Vermont Certification of Completion of CLE Makeup Plan, which is a document verifying that the attorney has completed the makeup credits in the approved plan. This certification must be signed and submitted to the Supreme Court within 30 days of completion of the makeup credits. There are two types of Vermont Certification of Completion of CLE Makeup Plan: one for attorneys who are approved for a CLE Makeup Plan prior to December 1, 2020, and one for attorneys who are approved for a CLE Makeup Plan after December 1, 2020. Both documents serve the same purpose of certifying that the attorney has fulfilled the requirements of the approved CLE Makeup Plan.
