Vermont Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC) are professionals who specialize in assisting individuals with physical and mental disabilities in achieving their career goals. VCRs assess the individual’s abilities, interests, and needs, and then develop individualized plans for each client which include job exploration, job-searching techniques, and job-placement services. VCRs also provide support services such as job coaching, mentoring, job-retention assistance, and follow-up services. There are two types of VCRs: those who are trained in and provide services for both physical and mental disabilities, and those who specialize in providing services to individuals with physical disabilities. VCRs must go through a rigorous certification process in order to become certified, which includes completion of an accredited university degree program, completion of a state-specific examination, and the successful completion of a supervised field practicum. VCRs must also meet all the requirements set forth by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBC) in order to maintain their certification.
