The Washington Order For Referral For Evaluation (or WORE) is an order issued by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSS) authorizing the referral of a child or youth for a comprehensive evaluation. The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the child or youth’s mental health needs, determine eligibility for public mental health services, and recommend treatment strategies. There are two types of Washington Order for Referral for Evaluation: • WORE-I: This order is for children and youths who have experienced social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties or who are at risk of such difficulties. • WORE-II: This order is for children and youths who have been identified as having a diagnosable mental health disorder and require mental health services. The WORE order authorizes the referral to an approved mental health professional, such as a psychologist, social worker, or psychiatrist, who will conduct the evaluation. The evaluation involves interviewing the child/youth and family members, collecting information from school staff and other involved parties, and completing assessments that measure social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. The evaluation will result in a comprehensive assessment and recommendations for treatment.
