A Washington Defendants Statement is a legal document that is filed by a defendant in response to a civil complaint in the state of Washington. It is a written answer to the allegations made against the defendant and includes any defenses the defendant wishes to raise. There are two types of Washington Defendants Statement: 1) A Defendant's Answer, which is a response to the facts and allegations made in the plaintiff's complaint; and 2) A Defendant's Counterclaim, which is a counterclaim made by the defendant against the plaintiff. In the Defendant's Answer, the defendant may either admit, deny, or state that they lack sufficient knowledge to answer the allegations. If the defendant denies the allegations, they must state their reasons for doing so. In the Defendant's Counterclaim, the defendant may raise additional claims for relief against the plaintiff. The Washington Defendant's Statement must be filed with the court within twenty (20) days of being served with the complaint.
