Washington Waiver of 14/120-Day Rule is a law in Washington state that exempts certain buyers from the standard 14-day/120-mile return policy. This waiver applies to vehicles that are six model years old or older, with more than 120,000 miles on the odometer, and purchased from a licensed dealer. The waiver is an exception to Washington’s Motor Vehicle Lemon Law, which generally requires dealers to accept returned vehicles within 14 days and/or 120 miles for a full refund. There are three types of Washington Waiver of 14/120-Day Rule: Manufacturer’s Waiver, Licensed Dealer’s Waiver, and Consumer’s Waiver. Manufacturer’s waiver applies when the vehicle is purchased from a licensed dealer and has more than 120,000 miles on the odometer and is six model years old or older. Licensed Dealer’s waiver applies when the vehicle is sold by a licensed dealer and the buyer has signed a waiver acknowledging that the vehicle is not covered by the 14-day/120-mile return policy. Consumer’s waiver applies when the vehicle is purchased from a private party and the buyer has signed a waiver acknowledging that the vehicle is not covered by the 14-day/120-mile return policy.
