The Washington Report of Guardian Ad Item (RAGA) is a legal document created by a court-appointed Guardian Ad Item (GAL). The GAL is an individual appointed by the court to investigate and make recommendations regarding the best interests of a child in a family law or dependency case. The RAGA is a written summary of the GAL's investigation and recommendations. It is usually shared with the court, the parties, and any other interested parties in the case. There are two main types of Ragas: Initial Reports and Re-Evaluation Reports. An Initial Report is the first report created by the GAL and provides an overview of the case and the GAL's investigation. A Re-Evaluation Report is created when the GAL is asked to update or provide additional information or recommendations. The RAGA typically contains the following information: the GAL's background and qualifications; a summary of the child's current living situation; the GAL's observations about the child's relationship with his or her parents; the GAL's recommendations regarding the child's best interests; and any other relevant information about the child and his or her family. The RAGA is an important legal document in family law and dependency cases, as it provides the court with information and recommendations to help it make decisions in the best interests of the child.
