Washington Criminal Jury Trial (Void Dire) is the process used to select jury members in a criminal trial in the state of Washington. It involves questioning potential jurors by attorneys from both sides in order to determine if they are suitable to serve as part of the jury. This questioning is known as voidir dire” and it is used to ensure that the jury will be impartial and able to judge the facts of the case objectively. There are two types of Washington Criminal Jury Trial (Void Dire): general void dire and individual void dire. In general void dire, the attorneys ask questions to the entire group of potential jurors. This is done in order to identify any potential biases they may have against the defendant or the case. In individual void dire, the attorneys ask questions to each potential juror one by one in order to better understand their background, beliefs, and opinions. Once the attorneys are done questioning the potential jurors, the court will decide which jurors are qualified to serve on the jury. This is known as jury selection. The court will consider the information gathered from the void dire process in order to ensure that the jurors are impartial and able to make a fair and unbiased decision in the case.
