Washington Request for Special Notice of Proceedings (also known as a “waiver of service”) is a legal document filed in a Washington court which allows a party to a lawsuit to waive their right to be served with process (i.e. summons and complaint) traditionally. This document also requires the other party to the lawsuit to provide notice of all proceedings and documents they intend to file with the court, such as motions, pleadings, and orders. There are two types of Washington Request for Special Notice of Proceedings: general and limited. A general waiver of service requires the other party to provide notice of all proceedings and documents they intend to file with the court. A limited waiver of service requires the other party to only provide notice of certain specified documents, such as motions, pleadings, or orders. In both cases, the waiver of service must be signed by a judge, approved by both parties, and filed with the court. Upon filing the waiver of service, the other party is required to provide the required notice to the signatory of the waiver of service. Failure to do so may result in sanctions or other legal action.
