Washington Financial Statement Harassment is a type of harassment that occurs when a debtor is subjected to aggressive collection tactics by a creditor to collect a debt. This type of harassment can include repeated phone calls, emails, letters, and even visits to the debtor’s residence or place of work, demanding immediate payment of the debt. In some cases, creditors may also threaten legal action or wage garnishment. The types of Washington Financial Statement Harassment include excessive and/or threatening calls, emails, letters, and visits; using profane language; making false or misleading statements about the debt; misrepresenting the amount of the debt; and harassing family members and associates of the debtor. The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) prohibits creditors from engaging in these types of activities and provides remedies for consumers who are victims of unfair debt collection practices.
