A Washington Order to Surrender Weapons Issued Without Notice is a legal document issued by the state of Washington to provide for the lawful seizure of firearms from individuals who are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. The order can be issued without notice and is often done when the person in possession of the weapons poses an immediate threat to public safety. There are two types of Washington Order to Surrender Weapons Issued Without Notice: Extreme Risk Protection Orders (RPO) and Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVP). An RPO is issued when a person poses a significant risk of harm to themselves or others, and is issued by a court after a petition is filed by law enforcement. A DVP is issued when there is a history of domestic violence or other dangerous behavior involving firearms, and is issued by a court after a petition is filed by a family member or law enforcement. Both orders require the person subject to the order to surrender any firearms in their possession, and prohibit them from purchasing or possessing firearms for up to one year.
