Washington Felony Judgment and Sentence — Parenting Sentencing AlternativeFRSJS) is an alternative sentencing program that provides a structured environment for incarcerated parents with dependent children. It is a voluntary program that allows eligible individuals to receive treatment and programming in lieu of traditional sentencing in order to help them remain connected to their families and to become better parents. FRS is available to individuals with a felony conviction who are the primary caretaker of their dependents and are facing incarceration in a Washington State correctional facility. The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) offers two types of FRS. These include the Parenting Sentencing Alternative (PSA) and the Parenting Reentry Alternative (PRA). The PSA is a residential program designed to provide eligible parents with the opportunity to receive treatment, education, and other services in lieu of traditional incarceration. The PRA is an in-prison program designed to help incarcerated parents transition back into the community safely and successfully. Both PSA and PRA programs are designed to reduce recidivism and promote family stability by providing parenting education, counseling, and support services. In addition, participants receive access to community resources such as employment, housing, and educational opportunities. The goal of the FRS is to ensure that eligible individuals have the opportunity to become productive members of society and to provide a safe and supportive environment for their children.
