Washington Felony Judgment and Sentence — Special Sex Offender Sentencing Alternative (SOSA) is a sentencing alternative used in Washington state, available to certain sex offenders. It allows the court to sentence sex offenders to a term of community supervision as an alternative to prison. The court can impose a range of conditions on the offender for the duration of the sentence, including community service, counseling, periodic drug testing, and more. SOSA has two main types: Standard and Extended. Standard SOSA sentences are served in the community for 12-24 months, while Extended SOSA sentences can range from 24-48 months. Both types of sentences have the goal of providing intensive supervision, accountability, and rehabilitation opportunities for sex offenders while reducing the risk of re-offending.
