The Washington Notice of Garnishment and of Your Rights (Effective until January 1, 2018.) is a form issued by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) that informs employers of their legal obligation to withhold a portion of an employee's wages for payment to a creditor. This type of garnishment is used to collect unpaid debts, such as child support, alimony, student loans, and other court-ordered payments. The Notice outlines the rights of the employee in regard to the garnishment, which include the right to receive a copy of the Notice, the right to receive an itemized list of all deductions, the right to contest the garnishment, and the right to receive a portion of the wages that are exempt from the garnishment. The Notice also outlines the employer's legal obligations when it comes to garnishment, such as withholding the garnished amount from the employee's wages, forwarding the withheld amount to the creditor, and ensuring that the employee's net pay is not decreased below the minimum wage. There are two types of Washington Notice of Garnishment and of Your Rights (Effective until January 1, 2018.): standard wage garnishment and continuing wage garnishment.
