The Washington Request for Reasonable Accommodation (ERA) is a process established by the Washington State Human Rights Commission (SRC) to provide protection to individuals with disabilities who need reasonable accommodation in order to access services, participate in activities, or enjoy the benefits of employment. The ERA process enables individuals to request reasonable accommodation from an employer, landlord, or service provider, in order to ensure equal access for individuals with disabilities. The ERA is a process used to identify and address barriers to access that may be faced by individuals with disabilities, in order to ensure that individuals with disabilities can fully participate in and benefit from the programs, activities, and services provided. The Washington Request for Reasonable Accommodation process includes two types of requests: a Pre-computing Request and a Complaint Request. A Pre-computing Request is an informal request for accommodation submitted directly to the employer, landlord, or service provider. A Complaint Request is a formal request for accommodation submitted to the SRC, if the Pre-computing Request is denied or if the individual does not receive a response within 30 days. The SRC will then investigate the request to ensure that the employer, landlord, or service provider is providing appropriate reasonable accommodation.
