A Washington Motion to Renew Extreme Risk Protection Order (RPO) is a legal procedure that allows a petitioner to renew an existing RPO for an additional 12 months. This motion can be used to protect a person from potential harm due to an imminent risk of suicide or serious bodily injury to themselves or others. There are two types of Washington Motions to Renew Extreme Risk Protection Orders: (1) a renewal motion initiated by the petitioner, and (2) a motion initiated by the respondent. When the petitioner initiates the renewal, they must submit a written motion to the court, along with a copy of the original RPO, an affidavit explaining why the renewal is necessary, and proof of service to the respondent. If the court grants the renewal, the RPO will be extended for another 12 months. If the respondent initiates the renewal motion, they must submit a written motion to the court with an affidavit explaining why the renewal is necessary, and a copy of the original RPO. The court will then hold a hearing to determine whether the RPO should be renewed. If the court grants the renewal, the RPO will be extended for another 12 months.
