The Washington Declaration on Parentage is a declaration that is used in the state of Washington to legally establish parentage in cases of assisted reproduction. This declaration is generally used when one or both of the intended parents are not the biological parents of the child. There are two types of Washington Declarations on Parentage: the Washington Declaration of Non-Biological Parentage and the Washington Declaration of Biological Parentage. The Washington Declaration of Non-Biological Parentage is used when one of the intended parents is not the child’s biological parent. This declaration can be used when the intended parent is not genetically related to the child due to a donor egg or sperm, or if the intended parent is the gestational parent only (i.e., the child was carried in another’s womb). This declaration is signed by both intended parents and the donor, and is sent to the court for legal recognition of parentage. The Washington Declaration of Biological Parentage is used when both intended parents are the biological parents of the child. This declaration is signed by both intended parents and the donor, and is sent to the court for legal recognition of parentage. Both declarations must be signed by both intended parents, the donor, and a notary public before it can be submitted to the court. Once the court accepts the declaration, the intended parents are legally recognized as the legal parents of the child.
