Washington Petition for Guardianship of Person and/or Estate (RCW 11.88.030) (PTA PGD) is a legal process for appointing a guardian of a person and/or estate in the state of Washington. This process is initiated by filing a petition in the Superior Court of the county in which the proposed ward resides. The petition must include detailed information about the proposed ward's mental and physical condition, living situation, and need for a guardian. Once the petition is filed, the court will hold a hearing where the petitioner and other interested parties may present evidence and testimony in support of or opposition to the petition. There are two types of Washington Petition for Guardianship of Person and/or Estate (RCW 11.88.030) (PTA PGD): Temporary Guardianship and Permanent Guardianship. Temporary Guardianship is a temporary guardianship arrangement that lasts up to six months. A court order is required for the guardianship to be extended beyond that time period. Permanent Guardianship is a permanent guardianship arrangement that is usually established for individuals who are unable to take care of themselves due to a physical or mental disability, or who are under the age of 18. The court will appoint a guardian to help the proposed ward make decisions and manage their affairs.
