Washington Findings and Order on Post-18 Extended Foster Care (Extending Dependency) (OR18FC) is a document issued by the Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSS) that sets forth the conditions for a youth to remain in foster care after turning 18 years old. It is also known as the Extended Foster Care Order. This document is used to extend the legal dependency of a young adult who is in foster care beyond the age of 18. There are two types of Washington Findings and Order on Post-18 Extended Foster Care (Extending Dependency) (OR18FC). The first type is an initial order issued by the court upon the request of a DSS social worker. This order establishes the legal eligibility of a young adult to remain in foster care after turning 18. The second type of order is a renewal order. This order is issued every six months and is used to renew the legal dependency of the young adult. The Washington Findings and Order on Post-18 Extended Foster Care (Extending Dependency) (OR18FC) outlines the terms of the young adult's continued placement in extended foster care. It also specifies the services and supports that the young adult is eligible to receive. These services and supports may include housing, education, employment, mental health and substance abuse treatment, and health care. The document also outlines the rights and responsibilities of the young adult while in extended foster care.
