Washington Notice of Intent to File Dependency Petition — Extended Foster Care is a legal document that is used when an individual or organization is seeking to extend a foster care placement of a child or youth beyond age 18. The notice informs the court that the Department of Social and Health Services (DSS) plans to file a Dependency Petition on behalf of the child or youth. The document outlines the reasons for the petition, provides relevant background information about the child, and describes the services needed to prepare the child for adulthood. There are two types of Washington Notice of Intent to File Dependency Petition — Extended Foster Care: (1) The Extended Foster Care Notice of Intent to File Dependency Petition (FNC), which is used when a child is already in extended foster care; and (2) the Dependency Petition for Extended Foster Care Placement (DPE FCP), which is used when a child is not currently in extended foster care.
