Washington Petitions Regarding Truancy (PTT RU) is a legal petition that can be filed in Washington State by parents or guardians of children who are not attending school, or who are having difficulty attending school consistently. The petition must be filed in the Juvenile Court in the county where the child and family reside. The petition is used to address the legal issue of a child’s truancy. In filing a petition, parents or guardians can request a hearing to determine the best course of action to address the child’s truancy. There are two types of Washington Petition Regarding Truancy (PTT RU): (1) Non-Enforcement PTT RU, and (2) Enforcement PTT RU. A Non-Enforcement PTT RU is used to address the underlying causes of a child’s truancy and can include services such as counseling, mentoring, tutoring, or community service. An Enforcement PTT RU is used when a child has failed to comply with the requirements of a Non-Enforcement PTT RU and can include court-ordered sanctions such as fines, community service, and/or probation.
