Washington State's Independent Medical Exam (IME): Crime Victims Compensation Program provides financial assistance to victims of violent crime who have sustained physical or psychological injuries. It covers medical care, lost wages, and other related expenses. It is funded by the Washington State Legislature and administered by the Department of Labor & Industries. The program offers two types of IME: Initial IME and Follow-up IME. Initial IME is a medical evaluation that determines the extent and severity of the injury, and the eligibility for benefits under the Crime Victims Compensation Program. Follow-up IME is an assessment that is performed to determine if the patient's treatment has been successful and if the patient is able to return to work. Washington State's Crime Victims Compensation Program is administered in accordance with the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and the Washington State Legislature. The program is designed to provide financial relief to victims of violent crime who have sustained physical or psychological injury as a result of the crime. Victims must apply to the Department of Labor & Industries for benefits. Victims may also be required to participate in an IME to determine the extent of their injury and their eligibility for benefits.
