Washington Competent Person Evaluation — Fall Restraint & Fall Arrest is a training program designed to provide workers in Washington State with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and control fall hazards. This program teaches workers how to identify fall hazards, select and use fall protection equipment, and inspect and maintain fall protection equipment. It is a requirement for any worker who performs work at heights of 6 feet or more. The evaluation includes two types of tests: Fall Restraint and Fall Arrest. The Fall Restraint evaluation consists of a written test and a practical test. The written test covers topics such as fall protection laws and regulations, fall protection systems, equipment selection and use, and inspection and maintenance. The practical test requires the participant to demonstrate the use of a fall restraint system, including the proper selection and use of the equipment, and the inspection and maintenance of the equipment. The Fall Arrest evaluation consists of a written test and a practical test. The written test covers topics such as fall protection laws and regulations, fall protection systems, equipment selection and use, and inspection and maintenance. The practical test requires the participant to demonstrate the use of a full-body harness, lanyard, and lifeline for a fall arrest system, including the proper selection and use of the equipment, and the inspection and maintenance of the equipment. Both evaluations are required to be completed by workers in order to demonstrate they are a Competent Person for Fall Restraint and Fall Arrest in Washington State. Successful completion of the evaluations ensures that the worker has the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and control fall hazards.
