Functional Capacity Summary
The Washington Functional Capacity Summary (FCS) is a comprehensive, standardized assessment tool used to evaluate an individual's functional capacity, physical demands, and job-related skills. This evaluation is used to determine an individual's ability to safely and effectively perform job duties. The FCS includes a physical assessment of an individual's strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, and endurance. Additionally, the assessment measures an individual's ability to complete job-related activities, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. There are two types of FCS: the Medical Evaluation Form and the Functional Capacity Evaluation Form. The Medical Evaluation Form consists of a physical assessment, medical history, and medical condition review. The Functional Capacity Evaluation Form measures an individual's ability to complete job-related activities, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. The results of the FCS provide employers and healthcare providers with important information to help them make informed decisions about hiring, returning to work, or making job modifications.
