Washington Renewal of Elevator Mechanic License is a state-mandated requirement for all elevator mechanics in Washington who wish to maintain their license. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that all elevator mechanics are qualified to perform their duties safely and effectively. This renewal process is administered by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). There are three types of Washington Renewal of Elevator Mechanic License: Class A Elevator Mechanic, Class B Elevator Mechanic, and Class C Elevator Mechanic. Each of these licenses requires the completion of specific educational and training requirements. To renew a Class A license, elevator mechanics must demonstrate knowledge of the safe installation, repair, and maintenance of elevators and related equipment. To renew a Class B license, elevator mechanics must demonstrate knowledge of the safe installation, repair, and maintenance of elevators and related equipment, as well as an understanding of the principles of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. To renew a Class C license, elevator mechanics must demonstrate knowledge of the safe installation, repair, and maintenance of elevators and related equipment, as well as an understanding of the principles of electrical systems. In order to renew their license, elevator mechanics must complete a series of continuing education courses and pass the corresponding certification exam. Upon successful completion of the renewal process, elevator mechanics will receive a renewed license, valid for three years.
