Washington Upgrade from Specialty Contractor to General Contractor is a process in which a Specialty Contractor in Washington State can become a General Contractor. This process requires the Specialty Contractor to gain additional experience and obtain the necessary licensing and bonding requirements in order to be eligible for the upgrade. There are three types of Washington Upgrade from Specialty Contractor to General Contractor: 1. Limited Contractor Upgrade: This upgrade requires the contractor to pass an exam and obtain a limited contractor license, which allows them to bid on and perform residential projects with a total cost of less than $200,000. 2. Commercial Contractor Upgrade: This upgrade requires the contractor to pass an exam, obtain a commercial contractor license, and obtain a surety bond that is equal to twice the estimated cost of the project. This upgrade allows the contractor to bid on and perform commercial projects with a total cost of more than $200,000. 3. Master Contractor Upgrade: This upgrade requires the contractor to pass an exam, obtain a master contractor license, and obtain a surety bond that is equal to twice the estimated cost of the project. This upgrade allows the contractor to bid on and perform any project with a total cost of more than $200,000. In order to obtain each of these upgrades, the contractor must also have two years of experience working in the specialty trade they are upgrading from. They must also pass a Washington State Trade Exam in order to receive the appropriate license for the upgrade.
