Washington State Prevailing Wage Law requires that certain public works construction projects over a certain threshold pay their employees a specific prevailing wage rate based on the type of work performed. The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) establishes prevailing wage rates for all counties within the state twice a year, and the law applies to any project that involves public works construction, alteration, repair, or improvement of any public structure, building, or facility that is funded in whole or in part with public funds. There are two types of Washington State Prevailing Wage Law: Public Works Prevailing Wage Law and Apprenticeship Rules. The Public Works Prevailing Wage Law applies to public works construction projects that are funded in whole or in part by public funds and are valued at more than $2,000. The Apprenticeship Rules apply to all public works projects regardless of the dollar amount, and they require that apprentices be used on public works projects that are valued at more than $25,000.
