Washington Your Independent Medical Exam (TIME): For Employees of Self-Insured Businesses is an independent medical exam designed to assess the physical and mental health of employees of self-insured businesses. This exam is conducted by a qualified examiner and provides an unbiased opinion of an employee’s ability to perform their job functions. The exam includes a physical examination, a review of medical records and tests, a discussion of medical history, a review of job functions, and a determination of fitness for duty. The examiner will provide a written report of the findings of the exam to the employer. There are two types of TIME: Pre-Employment TIME and Post-Employment TIME. Pre-Employment TIME is conducted prior to an employee starting work and is used to assess their ability to do the job they have been hired for. Post-Employment TIME is conducted after an employee has started work and is used to assess their continuing fitness for duty.
