Wisconsin Pro HAC Vice (Milwaukee Clerk of Court) is a procedure that allows non-resident attorneys to practice law in the state of Wisconsin without having to obtain a license in the state. This procedure is administered by the Milwaukee Clerk of Court. The Pro HAC Vice rules apply to attorneys that are licensed in either a state other than Wisconsin or another country. There are two types of Wisconsin Pro HAC Vice: Limited Pro HAC Vice and Full Pro HAC Vice. In order to be eligible for Limited Pro HAC Vice, an attorney must be admitted to practice law in any state other than Wisconsin. The attorney must also be a member in good standing of the bar of their home state or foreign country. Limited Pro HAC Vice does not require the attorney to have a law office in Wisconsin. Full Pro HAC Vice requires the attorney to be admitted to practice law in any state other than Wisconsin, have a law office in Wisconsin, and be a member in good standing of the bar of their home state or foreign country. Full Pro HAC Vice also requires the attorney to have an active trust account in Wisconsin and demonstrate that they are familiar with the Wisconsin court system and laws. In order to apply for either type of Wisconsin Pro HAC Vice, the attorney must submit an application to the Milwaukee Clerk of Court. The application must include the attorney’s name, address, bar admission number, and other information. The attorney must also submit a $100 fee.
