Wisconsin Emerald Future Land Use 3-2-11 is a comprehensive regional land use plan that divides Wisconsin’s landscape into six categories of land use: urban, suburban, rural, agricultural, natural areas, and resource-based recreation. Urban land use includes areas with a high concentration of development for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes. Suburban land use includes low-density development for single-family homes, apartments, and office parks. Rural land use includes areas with low population density, mostly used for agricultural production or forestry. Agricultural land use includes areas for producing crops, raising livestock, and harvesting timber. Natural areas include areas with high ecological value and are intended to remain undeveloped. Resource-based recreation land use includes areas for outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hunting, and boating. Wisconsin Emerald Future Land Use 3-2-11 aims to create a balance between economic development, environmental protection, and community livability.
