Wisconsin Inventory (Informal and Formal Administration) is an assessment tool developed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison to measure the effectiveness of Wisconsin’s public school systems. The Wisconsin Inventory (WI) is designed to assess school districts, individual schools, and classrooms, and can be used to identify areas of success and areas for improvement. The WI has two versions, informal and formal. The informal version of the WI is designed for small-scale use, such as assessing individual classrooms. It comprises 14 items that measure an array of factors including teacher-student relationships, classroom climate, and instructional strategies. The formal version of the WI is used to assess an entire school district or multiple schools within a district. It comprises 57 items and assesses multiple areas such as school climate, instructional practices, and leadership. Both versions of the WI are comprised of a variety of questionnaires and surveys that focus on different aspects of the school system. The WI can be used to identify areas of strength and provide evidence of progress towards educational goals.
