A Wisconsin Certificate of Conversion is an official document issued by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) that permits a business to convert from one type of legal structure to another. This document is typically used when a business wishes to convert from a limited liability company (LLC) or partnership to a corporation, or from a corporation to an LLC or partnership. The certificate must be signed by the business owner(s) and filed with the DFI along with any applicable fees. There are two types of Wisconsin Certificates of Conversion available: the Domestic Conversion Certificate and the Foreign Conversion Certificate. A Domestic Conversion Certificate is used when the business is converting from one type of legal entity to another within the state of Wisconsin, while a Foreign Conversion Certificate is used when the business is converting from a legal entity outside of Wisconsin to one in the state.
