A Wisconsin Dispositional Order — Protection or Services (Chapter 48) is a court-ordered legal document issued by a judge in Wisconsin that assigns rights and responsibilities to a child or youth in need of care and protection or services. This type of order is used when a court has determined that a child requires protection from certain risks or needs services to improve his or her situation. There are two types of Wisconsin Dispositional Orders — Protection or Services (Chapter 48): Dispositional Order — Protection and Dispositional Order – Services. A DispositionaOrderde— – Protection legally assigns rights and responsibilities for the care and protection of a child or youth to a party other than the child’s parent or guardian (such as a relative, foster parent, or state agency). This type of order is used when a court has determined that a child is at risk of harm or neglect and requires protection from certain risks. A Dispositional Order — Services legally assigns rights and responsibilities for providing services to a child or youth to a party other than the child’s parent or guardian. This type of order is used when a court has determined that a child needs services to improve his or her situation (such as mental health services, substance abuse treatment, or educational services). Both types of Dispositional Orders — Protection or Services (Chapter 48) require the court to consider the least restrictive environment and the least intrusive services necessary to meet the child’s needs. The court must also consider the family’s cultural background, language, and religion when devising a plan for the child’s care.
