A Wisconsin Order of Commitment (CGI) is a court order issued by a Wisconsin Circuit Court to commit an individual to a mental health or developmental disabilities' facility. This commitment is the result of a court hearing where the individual is found to be a danger to themselves or others. The order of commitment can be either voluntary or involuntary and can be issued for a period of up to one year. The two types of Wisconsin Order of Commitment (CGI) are: 1. Involuntary Commitment: An involuntary commitment is generally issued when an individual is deemed to be a danger to themselves or others due to a mental health or developmental disability. An individual who is subject to an involuntary commitment may be committed to a mental health or developmental disabilities facility or program. 2. Voluntary Commitment: A voluntary commitment is generally issued when an individual is deemed to be in need of mental health or developmental disability services, but is not a danger to themselves or others. An individual who is subject to a voluntary commitment may be committed to a mental health or developmental disabilities facility or program.
