The Wisconsin Notice of Limited Appearance is a document that attorneys use to indicate they are appearing in court on behalf of a client for a specific purpose or for a limited amount of time. This document is used when an attorney will be appearing in court but is not the attorney of record for the client. There are two types of Wisconsin Notice of Limited Appearance: 1) Limited Appearance for a Specific Purpose, and 2) Limited Appearance for a Limited Amount of Time. When filing a Limited Appearance for a Specific Purpose, the attorney must specify the purpose for their appearance and the court must approve the request before the attorney can enter an appearance. When filing a Limited Appearance for a Limited Amount of Time, the attorney must specify the length of time they will be appearing in court and the court must approve the request before the attorney can enter an appearance. In both cases, the attorney must provide a copy of the Notice of Limited Appearance to the court, the opposing counsel, and the client. The attorney must also provide proof of their admission to the Wisconsin bar and a certificate of service indicating that all necessary parties have been served.
