A West Virginia Notice of Intent to Request Redaction is a type of notice used to inform the West Virginia State Police that an individual or organization wishes to have certain information redacted from a public record. This notice is used to alert the state police that the person or organization is asking for a particular piece of information to be removed from the public record and that the request is being made in accordance with West Virginia state law. There are two types of West Virginia Notice of Intent to Request Redaction: a Standard Notice of Intent and an Expedited Notice of Intent. The Standard Notice of Intent is used when the request is for a standard redaction and requires the applicant to provide the West Virginia State Police with a written statement explaining why the information should be redacted. The Expedited Notice of Intent is used when the request is for an expedited redaction and requires the applicant to provide the West Virginia State Police with a written statement explaining why the request is for an expedited redaction. Both types of Notices of Intent must be signed by the applicant and include a copy of the applicable West Virginia state law.
