The West Virginia Certificate of Licensed Examiner (WV CLE) is a professional credential issued by the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Examiners. It is required for individuals in the state of West Virginia to practice as a licensed examiner in the areas of social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, and licensed professional counseling. The WV CLE is awarded to individuals who have met the educational and experience requirements established by the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Examiners. The WV CLE is divided into three types: Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LEFT). To be eligible for the LSW, candidates must have a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSAE)-accredited institution and at least two years of supervised experience in the field of social work. To be eligible for the LPC, candidates must have a Master’s degree in counseling from an accredited institution and at least two years of supervised experience in the field of professional counseling. To be eligible for the LEFT, candidates must have a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from an accredited institution and at least two years of supervised experience in the field of marriage and family therapy. All candidates must pass the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Examiners Examination, which is administered by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Examiners. Once an individual has obtained the WV CLE, they will be required to complete continuing education each year in order to maintain their license. Additionally, the WV CLE must be renewed every two years in order for the individual to continue to practice as a licensed examiner in the state of West Virginia.
