Climate resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to hazardous events, trends, or disturbances related to climate. Improving climate resilience involves assessing how climate change will create new, or alter current, climate-related risks, and taking steps to better cope with these risks.

The Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change focuses on supporting EU regions, cities and local authorities in their efforts to build resilience against the impacts of climate change. The Mission's objective is to accompany by 2030 at least 150 European regions and communities towards climate resilience.

Climate change adaptation means altering our behavior, systems, and?in some cases?ways of life to protect our families, our economies, and the environment in which we live from the impacts of climate change. The more we reduce emissions right now, the easier it will be to adapt to the changes we can no longer avoid.

The process of evaluating vulnerabilities and prioritizing approaches to manage or minimize the impacts of climate change within an area is known as adaptation planning, and typically results in a public document called an adaptation plan.

The EU is committed to a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. This is also the commitment made by the EU, under the Paris Agreement, to the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Climate Change. In addition, the EU's objective is to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

Under the mission area for Adaptation to climate change including societal transformation, the proposed mission is called 'A Climate Resilient Europe: Prepare Europe for climate disruptions and accelerate the transformation to a climate resilient and just Europe by 2030'.
