If you want to fully delete a header or footer in your document, follow these steps: Position the insertion point in the section that has the header you want to delete. Display the Insert tab of the ribbon. In the Header & Footer group, click either Header or Footer, depending on which one you want to delete.

Reorganize your documentIn the Navigation pane, click the Browse the headings in your document tab.Do any of the following: To move part of the document, click the heading and drag it to a new location. To change the heading to a higher or lower heading level, right-click the heading, and then click Promote or Demote.

Go to the Insert tab and click the Header drop-down menu. Then, select Edit Header from the list of options. Alternatively, you can simply double-click the top margin of the page to access the header section.

If you need to adjust the height of your header, then click into header and use vertical ruler on your right. By pulling it up and down you can increase or decrease its size.

After you close the header or footer, it will still be visible, but it will be locked. Simply double-click a header or footer to unlock it, which will allow you to edit it.
